As more and more of us become the generation that raise our children and help to take care of our aging parents we may find ourselves choosing to bring those parents into our homes to stay with us.  What better way to make Grandma or Grandpa feel welcome into our home to live than a beautiful framed craft that goes on the wall to show that they are here to stay?  Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing…

Shadow Box-

Buy a shadow box that is at least 2 inches larger than the largest family member’s hand

Trace with pencil each person’s hand on interesting and coordinating scrapbook paper and cutting along the lines

Layer the largest hand in the back and offset the next smallest, then the next smallest and so on until the last hand that is in front is the very smallest hand.

Between each hand, either use push pins or set them up a bit from each other by using 3D double-sided tape in the craft section.

By using dimensional paper, it will add some interest to each hand rather than being flat or by crumpling each sheet before cutting them.

Paint Ideas-

This can be done on a matless frame or any frame that has two panes of glass inside if you’re doing it directly onto the glass, just make sure that the paint you are using is suitable for glass or it may not stick for long.  Or it can be done on a regular frame with a nice quality piece of acid-free paper.

These are available as kits on Amazon and Target and Etsy.
