QAFM Advisory Board Picks: Favorite Fall Activities for the Whole Family

As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, fall brings with it a season full of traditions, adventures, and family memories. Our advisory board members are sharing their favorite fall happenings. Events that capture the spirit of the season and celebrate the places and people they love most. Read about the magic of Nauvoo’s Pumpkin Walk, joining in the fun at Boo at the St. Louis Zoo, or lacing up for an annual Turkey Run. These activities highlight just how much there is to enjoy close to home and beyond.

From Advisory Board Member Nikki Eddy

My favorite Community Fall Activity is a late fall activity, you might think I’m crazy for it, but it’s the YMCA Turkey Run!  I love getting up early on Thanksgiving morning grabbing a cup of coffee and getting a brisk walk in before we go off to gorge ourselves on fatty food and delish treats!  We started the tradition in 2018 and have been doing it ever since and I love it. The first year it was just my husband and I running it, since then we have decided we are just mostly walking and the kids and my mom have since joined in, but it is a great and healthy way to start out the holiday season.  My son (who is almost 8) likes to mostly run 5ks now and so my husband follows along jogging in tow.  My mom and I usually briskly walk and chit chat and my daughter floats between running with her dad and brother and walking with us.

It’s such a great community event because everyone is excited to be there and off of work and ready for the holiday meal to come later that day.  We are all wishing each other a Happy Thanksgiving and sharing smiles and laughter and no matter how chilly it is, it always makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
